Does the maid of honor have to make a toast?
At many weddings the maid of honor and the best
man give toasts, but neither has to make a toast if they feel uncomfortable
doing so. It is fine to have no toasts at all, to have one or both fathers
make toasts, for the groom to make a toast, or for another unrelated person to
be asked to make the toast. The bride and groom should decide in advance who
they want to do it and let them know so that the person/persons can be
prepared.
If you are the maid of honor and you don't feel
comfortable making a toast, let the bride know and ask her not to put you on
the spot. If she insists, you can find outlines for toasts on this web site
and others. You don't have to say much, just keep it short and sincere.
