Q.
I'm having a winter wedding. The theme is
"Winter Wonderland" I was looking for ideas for my decorations at
the reception and the church. My colors are red and ice blue and I'm
going to tie in silver or platinum. My wedding is also the day after
Valentines day. I'm looking for a classy or elegant look. But I'm
also on a budget. I like the snowflakes and white Christmas lights.
For the church I wanted it to look like winter. Like something at
the altar and on the way down to the altar. And I need something for
the pew bows
A.
Your plans sound lovely so far, and very
creative. It sounds like a
nice combination of winter and romantic elements/colors, and I
would
definitely add in some metallic accents-- I think silver would
add a
lovely touch. I wouldn't say you were lost at all. Just at a
creative
pause. : )
What have you planned so far using the snowflakes and white
lights?
Those are ideas that you can do a lot with for not a lot of
money.
Likewise consider any other materials that enhance an
icy/frosty/sparkly
effect. For example:
~ wire glass snowflake or icicle ornaments into floral
arrangements or
hang them from pew bows
~ choose ribbons or fabrics with metallic snowflake prints or
embossed
snowflake motifs
~ add snowflake window clings or stickers to hurricane lamps or
candle bowls
~ rent or buy mirrored tiles to put under centerpieces for
sparkle and
reflection
~ sprinkle snowflake
confetti-- and/or iridescent/pearlescent
glitter--around
centerpieces
~ or have a flower girl, or even maid of honor, sprinkle it on
the aisle
runner for you to walk in over (ask the church about this first,
because
it will need to be vacuumed up later.)
~ use battery-operated short strings of white lights in bouquets
or
other decorations.
~ use metallic and/or pearlized balloons as part of reception
centerpieces and/or decorations
~ buy clear Christmas ornament balls, use spray fixative and
glitter, or
pearlescent paint on the inside-- then wire into decorations,
pile in
bowls as decorations, etc.
~ mix shredded white tissue paper and shredded iridescent or
pearlescent
cellophane for a snow-like look lining candy bowls or on the
table
around
centerpieces.
(check out Oriental Trading on-line and order their catalog for
glass
and other novelty items. They have some really pretty and
affordable
glassware, especially, and in a couple months they will start
sending
out catalogs with the Christmas ornaments and winter-themed
items. )
Just keep your eyes open for ideas and products you can make use
of.
Many times you can stretch your budget with items like ribbon
and the
ornaments I mentioned because they can be bought in quantity and
take up space you might have needed to fill with more expensive
items like fresh flowers.
Don't forget
candy and other food items as a centerpiece or
decorative
item, either. They can, again, take up space and be
decorative-- and
guests can enjoy them, too.

It's about making the most of the money you spend on your
reception.
