We
are planning a formal dinner after our wedding instead of a
dance or party type of thing, and are wondering what type of
music to play. We have a musician who can put together a group
for us as long as we can give him suggestions as to what type
of music to play. We want either classical or very low-key
soft jazz instrumental. The problem is, we don't know anything
about those types of music. Do you have any suggestions as far
as artists or classical works out there we can have the
musician listen to?? The best I can come up with so far is to
go to the music store and start listening to everything until
we find what we want. Is this the best way?
Musicians have their own styles and types of music with which
they are most comfortable. If you tell your musician what
styles you like, he or she should be able to sit down with you
and either play samples of the chosen style or play CD's of
that style, so that you get a feel for what each style is
like. You will have better results by working directly with
the musician and letting them choose the specific pieces of
music to play than you will if you try to figure out what you
might want, then telling them each song. You might want to
consider combining the classical and soft jazz sounds,
particularly if there will be any dancing. You could have the
classical played during dinner, then the jazz after dinner for
dancing.
