Wording for thanking my mother

Q. I'm wearing my mother's wedding dress and would like to thank her in a special way in our wedding program.  What would you suggest?

A. I think any mention you make would be lovely.  The exact wording should be your own, since it's a very personal subject.  Basically, you just want to say that the gown was hers, and express how special it is to you.

However, you could write something that includes her name and wedding date, too, for more background.  I think it probably should go fairly late in the program, and separated from other information by a decorative divider or the like.

You might choose to say something like:

"The bride's gown was originally worn by her mother [full name] during her wedding on [date, maybe "at" place]. Thanks, Mom, for sharing this beautiful heirloom with me.  Tina

Think it through and just write what you feel.  I'm sure your mother will appreciate the mention, and your guests will be glad to know your gown's special history.

Best wishes to you--
