People ring the bells at different times for different
reasons. Some do it before the ceremony, like you mentioned, as a signal
that the ceremony is beginning. Others do it after the ceremony as they are
leaving the church as a signal that the wedding is over and they are now
husband and wife. Do whatever seems most natural to you and what will best
fit into the order of the processional and recessional.
