Q. my best friend is getting married and has asked me to be her maid of honor, what can I wear and what are all my duties?

A. The customs vary by country, so I can only tell you about a maid of honor in the U.S. In this country, the bride chooses what the maid of honor will wear. Sometimes she asks the maid of honor for suggestions and the maid of honor usually pays for the dress.

During the ceremony, the maid of honor stands next to the bride and holds her flowers. She also signs the marriage license. She may make a toast during the reception.

Before the wedding, she helps the bride with the planning, runs errands, and generally helps the bride with the wedding planning.
