Q. I'm a Maid of Honor and am looking for ideas for my speech during the reception. The bride has been my best friend since 1st grade, and we are now 23. I am having trouble with how to start and again on how to end. The bulk of the speech I have, no problem-being friends for so long has created all sorts of stories and memories. We are very close, and goofy too. Do you have any suggestions on poems, verses, jokes, etc. that would help me start and end this speech?

A. I suggest that you begin and end the speech on a serious note and keep the humor in the body. You might begin by thanking the bride for asking you to be in her wedding and mentioning what an honor it is, particularly because of your many years of friendship. Then tell the stories. End by wishing the bride and groom a lifetime of happiness.
