Q.
My fiancée is in the Army as an
officer and since our date is immediately after the fourth of July
we wanted to have a Red White and Blue wedding. I am concerned
because only the groom and 2 of his ushers will be in the dress
blues, and I don\'t know if I should try to put the other groomsman
in Navy colored Tuxes or go with the traditional Black. In addition
I am not sure what color dresses to go with for my bridesmaids-
would red be too bold for the time of year? Finally I would like
to incorporate blue flowers into the bouquets what would you
suggest.
A.
With a red, white, and blue wedding you
can emphasize any of the colors as much as you want to. For the
guys, I would look at the dark blue tuxedos and see if you like
them. If you do, go with that color. Otherwise, go with the black.
For the ladies dresses, you can go
with red and use blue and white flowers or you could have them wear
light blue and carry red and white flowers.
Several types of blue flowers are
available for summer weddings. I live in the Northwest, and
hydrangeas are very popular in the summer. However, they can range
in color from blue to mauve to greenish white. Delphiniums and
larkspur both come in blue. Though both are tall flowers, your
florist will take them apart and use smaller pieces. Flowers such
as carnations can also be dyed. Plus, carnations come in red and in
a white variegated with red.
I would first visit the florist and
look at pictures and get some ideas. Then, you can decide whether
you prefer mostly white and blue bouquets, in which case the ladies
can wear red, or you prefer mostly red and white bouquets and would
rather have the ladies in blue.
It will be a lovely and patriotic
wedding. Congratulations.
