Protocol of military wedding in Navy

Q.  My Fiancé is enlisted in the Navy...I want to have a military wedding, but I am not sure the protocol involved with the idea of a military wedding.  Can we do an arch of swords with him being in the Navy?  Is it ok for us to have people of different ranks in our wedding party?  What about having officers of different branches?

Single-use cameras from $5.95

A. Is your fiancé an officer?  Only officers can have the arch of sabers.  If he is, he can talk to his commander to arrange it.  A military wedding is much like any other  wedding except that the groom and the other men wear uniforms.  If the arch of sabers is held, your fiancé will be expected to invite his commanding officer and give him/her a seat of honor at the ceremony.  You can include men of varying ranks as long as they are all either officers or enlisted men, but not a mix.

You can learn more about military wedding protocol at the following web site:  http://www.marinewives.com/knowledge/weddings.htm  The site mentions Marines, but the protocol is the same for any branch of the military.

Best wishes to you.
