We're paying for our wedding
ourselves. Many of our guests are traveling from out of town,
so I put together a newsletter, showing where to stay,
highlights of the area, etc. We were hoping to get everyone
together the night before the wedding (there will be no
rehearsal) & would be most convenient to have it at a
restaurant. However, we cannot afford to pay for everyone at
the restaurant. How can I word this invitation in the
newsletter to let everyone know that they would be responsible
for their own expenses that evening?

What an excellent idea.
Your family will appreciate
your thoughtfulness in giving them this extra time together.
Simply say "There will be a no host dinner on Friday evening
at _____. We hope you can join us." If you need to make
reservations, say "Please respond if you plan to join us so
that we can make reservations."
