Unfortunately, it is considered a breach of
etiquette to mention gifts in any form, particularly money, in a
wedding invitation. An invitation is a request to join in
the celebration of an important event in your life and it should
never be about gifts. If you do ask for money, you run the
risk of offending a portion of your guests and they may decide
to give nothing rather than comply.
The way to let your guests know what you
prefer is to spread the word to family and friends. They can
then verbally share the information with those who ask. Some
people don't like giving money, so be prepared to receive some
gifts.
