How to pick the perfect wedding date with an agreement from my fiancé

Create Her Ring

Before our parents meet we need to agree on a wedding date. I'm not sure how to go about this.  Don't most weddings take place in June or July?  How can I go about choosing the perfect wedding date for us with an agreement from him!

Picking the perfect date is a challenge and you should be prepared to change your date at least once, maybe more.  You do not need to be married in any specific month and it may be to your advantage to choose an "off" month, such as January, February, March, April, or November (depending on where you live).  Since few weddings occur in those months, you will have less competition for locations and services and you may be able to take advantage of lower prices.

You should choose a preferred date, then begin looking at locations for both the ceremony and the reception.  If you hold them in different locations, you will have to be sure that both are available on the date and time that you want.  If not, you may have to change the date.

Be sure to give yourself plenty of planning time, at least 6 months is best.  However, I have planned beautiful weddings in less than 3 months when they were held in an "off" month and every merchant was available, and you may be able to do the same.

Talk to your fiancé and set a tentative date, then discuss it with both sets of parents.  They may have some input, either positive or negative, about a particular date or range of dates, such as one that would conflict with a sibling's graduation.

The two of you should first discuss what you would like to do, where, and when, then present those ideas to your parents.  You will need to establish a budget with your parent's input. Your ideas will change as you begin planning and you consider various ideas.

Best wishes to you both.
