Q.
My husband and I had a very small
civil ceremony......my new mother-in-law threw a party to
congratulate us the first of may......many of her friends that I
don't know gave us money....actually we only received one gift
and about 15 other people gave money.....how do I write a thank
you note thanking people for the money with out sounding
repetitious....and do I include what we are planning to do with
the money? I'm just not sure how to word the notes.......
A. Yes, you should mention what you
plan to spend the money for, particularly if it will go toward a
large purchase. Thank the guests for coming to the reception,
say that you enjoyed meeting them and hope to get to know them
better in the future (assuming this is true), then tell them how
much you appreciated the gift and what you plan to purchase with
it. You might say something like, "your gift will help us to be
able to purchase the dining table and chairs that we need so
badly."
