Children in the wedding ceremony

Miniature Hostesses

When a young lady in your life desires to be in the wedding, and there is no position left for her to fill during the actual ceremony, consider asking her to be a miniature hostess.  Children as young as three, and up to eight years old make excellent miniature hostesses.  Their duties could include, passing out baskets of groom's cake as guests arrive, wedding programs when there are no junior ushers, or passing out bags of rice during the reception.   Her apparel is a frilly, party dress, or possibly a matching rendition of the bridesmaid gowns.   Dressing up and looking a part of the wedding is what make the day special to a child.

During the rehearsal, suggest the children practice more than once or twice, allowing them to be sure of what is expected.  Young children are not expected to go to the rehearsal dinner, but may do so if the bride requests it.
