Which
is best?
The modern couple
can have almost any confection creation they fancy. The influences of
travel, the media and the Internet has encouraged couples to be more
adventurous . While the traditional rich fruit cake is still popular, the
trend this year has been for chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate in all
its forms. From classical sachertorte, chocolate biscuit cake, Mississippi
mud cake, white chocolate sponge cake, chocolate and hazelnut cake to
chocolate ice cream cake.
Cakebox have
again created some amazing new designs to meet this changing demand. All or
part of the wedding cake can include some type of chocolate cake. Most cakes
can then be decorated to look like traditional Wedding Cakes if required
Pure white icing with minimal or no decoration seems to be the preference
for most wedding cakes for this autumn and early next year. Delicate
sugarart flowers in pastel shades with a hint of silver are also in demand.
The wedding cake that can be served as part of the sweet course or as the
sweet course is gaining in popularity. While the wedding cake may not be the
most expensive item on your list, with clever shopping you will save time,
worry and money.
- Visit as many confectioners as you can, check out their websites,
there are some amazing cakes available today. If you want a professional
to create your special cake do shop around, ask to see samples of previous
work done and get a tasting of their cakes.
- Book in plenty of time, especially if you want an extra special
creation, as with any service a good decorater will get booked up quickly.
Usually cakes need to be booked 3 to 12 months ahead
- Get the details of your order in writing, normally a deposit will
secure your order.
- Calculate the number of cake slices required, not forgetting to also
allow for giving to absent friends and relations.
- Do you have a wedding theme which the cake can reflect?
- Would you like to co-ordinate colours on the cake with those used in
wedding flowers or the brides dress?
- Choose between traditional, novelty, humorous or totaly different and
unusual (this is where Heather's Sweet Art comes in !!)
- Cake recipes can usually be tailered to suit special problems e.g nut
allergies so bear this in mind if you know this could cause a serious
problem for anyone so they will not have to miss out on the cake tasting.
- Do ask if stands or pillars, boxes, and delivery are included in the
price. These little extras can add £50.00 to the cost of your cake when
you least expect it. Be aware, high prices are not a guarantee of quality.
Insist on having what you want, not what the confectioner thinks is
fashionable.
- Don't forget to ask for a viewing date to see your finished cake, you
don't want to be surprised on your wedding day.
- Ask about delivery, what is the charge? When will it be delivered?
Give the phone number and name of your venue and bridal co-ordinater at
the venue to the cake decorater to avoid any confusion, especialy for
large venues who may be dealing with more than one wedding on that day.
