Q.
I need to send an announcement to family and
friends that I'm getting married in Jamaica just prior to us
leaving so that people will receive them while we are away.
How do I word an announcement & include the location, type of
ceremony and ask for prays and well wishes. Also, we would
like to invite them to a reception upon our return where a
video of our wedding will be played.
A.
For a traditional announcement of a destination
wedding or elopement, you would use formal wording:
(your middle name, your maiden name)
and
Mr. (groom's full first, middle and last name)
announce their marriage
Saturday the second of November
Two thousand and two
[Hotel or other location, optional]
[city ], Jamaica
And you would send the invitations (or have someone else send
them) the day of the wedding.
With the information that you plan to include, as well as the
unusual timing and purpose, it sounds as if you will be doing
a fairly informal announcement, so you can pretty much word it
any way you like.
There's not much I can suggest beyond just putting down the
information you mentioned:
*****
[your names]
announce our wedding
[day, date]
in a sunset ceremony, [approx. time -- perhaps including time
zone?]
[location]
[city], Jamaica
We hope that you will hold us in your thoughts and prayers at
this time,
as we will hold you in our hearts.
*****
Or something like that. And if you want to include the
reception
invitation on the announcement (which I'm not sure I would
do), you
would need to include all that information, as well.
*****
We look forward to sharing our experiences with you
[day, date]
[time]
at [location, address, city, state]
for a post-wedding celebration.
[other information, such as RSVP, etc.]
*****
It
should be pretty straight-forward to compose.
