When you first speak with your caterer or
licensed liquor dealer he may throw words at you that are meaningless,
so allow us to provide meaning for you.
Open Bar
This is a basic bar with all the works. You have your hard liquor for
mixing drinks, your beer, soft drinks, etc. Your guests will be
comfortable with this setting because it functions much like a normal
bar would.
Limited Bar
Its name explains it all--you set limits on what will be served and in
what moderation. You may want to provide a small bar with strong
alcohol kept to a minimum. On the other hand, you may want to nix the
hard alcohol all together and just go with serving light wine and
fruit punch.
Cash Bar
This bar has its good and bad points. It's shunned upon because it
isn't proper to ask your "guests" to pay for anything regarding your
wedding. It seems like a rotten deal to attend a reception and having
to dish out your wallet to ail your dry throat. The notable point
about a cash bar is how people tend to consume alcohol less frequently
when it isn't free.
