A. Dear Carla,
Your question about whether your father should help with your wedding expenses is a very
good one. Congratulations if you have gotten his financial support in planning your
reception. I know this is a very personal and emotional issue for every bride, and it is
also difficult not to listen to the judgmental comments of those around you. You have
described a situation where you and your fiance' are planning your wedding, a first for
both of you. Congratulations! The length of time that your courtship has existed (in your
case, 13 years) should have no bearing on a parent's decision to assist or not in the
finances. With today's weddings being very expensive, it usually takes the help of several
people pooling their resources to cover costs. If Dad is willing to help, graciously
accept his
offer, spend his money wisely, and enjoy your day. Best of luck in your planning!
Regards,
Gayle
