Wedding Party
answered by Gayle ODonnellQ.My
brother is getting married in August. They have been engaged for a year and his fiancée
has not asked me to be in the bridal party yet. Isn't it proper for the groom's siter to be in
the party?

A. This is something that is not set in
stone in bridal etiquette.
Often times a bride will ask the sister of the groom to be in the bridal party, if they
have a particularly close relationship and this is something that will work out. So
much depends on the relationship between the sister and the bride, and it is not a given.
Some times the bride has too many girlfriends, of a long time, for her wedding
party, and has a very hard time choosing among them, but can't have a big enough wedding
party to include all of them. If this is the case, and she doesn't have a
particularly close relationship with the sister of the groom, it isn't likely that she
would choose the sister over a girlfriend she has had for many years. Often times,
the sister of the groom will be offered another role in the wedding, such as
that of tending the guest book or doing a reading during the ceremony. Please do not
hold this as a strike against your sister-in-law to be if she isn't able to include you in
the wedding party. Just pray that she and your brother have a very happy marriage,
and that you will get to be a doting aunt to their children some day! :-)
Best regards,
Gayle |
