The Power of Pre Wedding Prayer (cont)It's good to have perspective. True,
your wedding is important and a wonderful event in your life, but it's only one day. Your
relationships with the Lord and your husband will last forever. This time of engagement is
the time to build those relationships so you have a solid foundation as you begin married
life.
It's also important to
remember your priorities. The God who made you and wants to spend time with you ranks
above worrying about the details. And, amazingly, the details seem to work out after we
spend time with Him. Remember, He is the one you are trying to honor in your wedding, in
your life and in your marriage.
So the question is ... how?
How can we keep our focus on our first Love?
C.S. Lewis, in Reflections
on the Psalms, wrote "It is in the process of being worshiped that God
communicates His presence to men." Spending time truly worshipping God is the
"one thing" that Jesus said is needed.
Pastor Joseph Carroll,
author of How to Worship Jesus Christ, suggests that we must depend on the Holy
Spirit to help us concentrate on the Lord and truly worship God. He suggests that we use
Scripture, spiritual songs and devotional books in worship. The Psalms are always a great
place to begin. "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10 NIV) is an
amazing reminder when we are anxious and distracted. Pastor Carroll also suggests that we,
as he puts it, keep short accounts with God. Confessing any sin we have committed is an
important way to stay close to God and prepare for worship.
Other ideas for your
worship time are:
Read the book of Esther and learn how God used a woman obedient to Him.
Thank God for every aspect of your upcoming wedding day, for your fianc and
for each one of his family members.
Read John 2:1-11 and smile when you realize that Jesus really cared about how that
wedding went, and He cares about yours too.
Play your favorite worshipful CD and sing along as you drive to take care of wedding
errands.
Read the book of Ruth and enjoy a good romance story. Notice what a great husband
Boaz was and thank the Lord for your husband-to-be.
Pray with your fianc about any family, wedding or relationship difficulties
you two are experiencing. End the prayer praising God for your upcoming marriage.
Read about the wife of noble character in Proverbs 31. Pray through it, asking the
Lord to teach you how to translate it into your life. |
